I understand what solo and small firm attorneys need. I’ve been one for my entire career. I have also worked on behalf of my fellow solo and small firm lawyers on the Illinois State Bar Association General Practice, Solo & Small Firm Section Council for six years, including a term as chair. I was the final chair of the ISBA annual Solo and Small Firm Conference and the founding chair of the association’s Solo and Small Firm Practice Institute. I have served on the event’s organizing committee for over ten years. I have continued my work to expand continuing legal education opportunities for solo and small firm lawyers as chair of the ISBA CLE Committee.
TIMOTHY J. STORM concentrates his law practice in appellate litigation in state and federal courts and providing litigation support to trial counsel, which includes preserving issues for appeal, assisting in developing an overall legal theory and strategy, and briefing complex motions.
Described by the Chicago Daily Law Bulletin as a “prominent Illinois appellate lawyer,” Storm is a Fellow of Litigation Counsel of America, an invitation-only honorary society composed of less than one-half of one percent of American lawyers who are selected based upon effectiveness and accomplishment in litigation and superior ethical reputation.
He is among only 5% of lawyers in the state to have been designated as “Super Lawyers” over multiple years by Super Lawyer Magazine. He is rated 10 out of 10 (Superb) by Avvo and he also holds an AV Preeminent rating from Martindale-Hubbell, the highest possible peer-review rating in legal ability and ethical standards.
The Illinois State Bar Association honored him with its Board of Governors Award in 2015 for “long-standing and exemplary contributions to the association and the legal profession.” He received the Chicago Volunteer Legal Services Distinguished Service Award for successful appellate representation of low income clients in 2013.
Storm is the author of three books: Illinois Appellate Practice Manual, the comprehensive two-volume treatise covering civil appeals (2015–2019 editions); Illinois Civil Litigation Guide (2012–13 updates and 2014–19 editions); and Illinois Trial Objections (2009, 2010, and 2011 editions), all published by Thomson Reuters, the nation’s leading legal publisher. His articles on appellate and trial practice have been published in numerous law reviews and bar journals and have been cited favorably in opinions of several courts of review, including the supreme courts of Illinois, Tennessee, and Texas.
As an adjunct professor at The John Marshall Law School, he taught both appellate advocacy and advanced persuasive writing, the most advanced writing course offered at the school. In addition, he is a highly-rated continuing legal education instructor on topics including appellate and trial practice and persuasive writing.
